Mairaj lives in Delhi and his roots are from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. After finishing college he picked up shooting as a sport. As a skeet shooter, Mairaj is the first athlete to qualify for the Olympic games, first at Rio, 2016 followed by the Tokyo Olympics, 2020-21. He also holds the joint world record for getting a perfect score of 125/125 in his discipline.
